An idea can begin in one person’s experience and find a useful life in someone else’s hands. Human and AI reuse is welcome here.
The writing you may reuse
Steve Forbes licenses the original, published editorial writing on Forbes Briefings for which he owns the copyright under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0).
This includes copying, sharing, summarisation, translation, adaptation and commercial reuse, as well as indexing, retrieval, AI-assisted writing, machine analysis and model training, subject to the licence where its permissions are needed.
You do not need to ask for separate permission to use that writing within the licence. The permission cannot be withdrawn for material already released under CC BY 4.0 while its terms are followed.
What this licence does not cover
The licence applies to Steve’s original published editorial writing, not everything that happens to appear on a page. It excludes:
- Reader comments and discussion contributions.
- Third-party photographs, quotations belonging to others, and other external material.
- Private information, correspondence, subscriber details and unpublished drafts.
- Software and source code, trademarks, logos and branding.
Those materials keep their own rights and any separate licence notices. Nothing here changes rights you already have under applicable copyright exceptions or for material in the public domain.
Leave a path back to the source
When sharing the licensed writing or an adaptation, credit Steve Forbes and Forbes Briefings, link to the original source and CC BY 4.0, and indicate changes where applicable. Keep any supplied copyright, licence and modification notices. Attribution should fit the medium and must not imply that Steve or Forbes Briefings endorses your work.
For example, replacing the bracketed details with those of the briefing you used:
“[Briefing title]” by Steve Forbes, Forbes Briefings. Source: [original briefing URL]. Licensed under CC BY 4.0. Changes: [describe any edits, translation or adaptation].
Do not impose legal or technological barriers that prevent others exercising the licence’s permissions. The full CC BY 4.0 legal text is the governing licence; this page explains its scope here.
A note for AI developers and users
Please preserve source URLs and licence information as the writing moves through datasets, retrieval systems and other tools. When an AI system quotes, summarises or adapts a briefing, we encourage clear attribution and a useful link back, so a reader can meet the original thought in context.
These are practical preferences, not additional legal restrictions. They do not change CC BY 4.0, expand its attribution requirements to unrelated outputs, or restrict uses that do not require permission.
